Every one of the 40 hiding spots, from the Christmas tree to the cookie jar, has a riddle at all three levels, so brothers and sisters of different ages can hunt the same house. Little Elves (ages 4 to 7) get a big picture of the spot and a two-line rhyme for a grown-up to read aloud, so no reading is needed. Clever Elves (ages 7 to 11) get four-line rhyming riddles a young reader can solve alone. Head Elves (ages 12 to adult) get hard riddles with wordplay, misdirection and a few mini codes, each with exactly one answer. Choose Little, Clever or Head Elves for each hunter by age, and give each hunter a trail color: Red, Green, Gold or Blue.
Walk through your home with the Spot Finder and pick the spots for a trail of 6 to 20 stops, in the order you want them found. The last spot is where the present goes.
Write the spots in order and copy each card number from the Spot Finder. Type into the fillable list and print it, or write by hand.
Print that level's pages in your hunter's color, using the page index on page 1 of the riddle cards, and cut out the cards on your list.
Card 1 goes inside the START card, and each card after it hides at the spot the card before it leads to. The present waits at the last spot. Hand over the START card and watch the hunt.
